This is my amp. There are many like it, but this one is mine.



I wanted to share my "new" Peavey amp today. I've had it for a while now It's a Vypyr model modeling amp, which means that it pretends to be a bunch of different amps. These amps include old standards like the Fender Deluxe, the old twin tube and several other clean models, Some Marshall goodness as well as some big crunchy amps like Peavey's own 6505, XXX and the Joe Satriani JSX plus others like Krankenstein and Diezel amps. Plus all of them have a clean and overdriven channel.

My model also has a dozen or so preamp effects like phaser, octaver, chorus, rotating speaker, tube screamer, pitch shifter, and others to choose from to get your setup sounding pretty much just how you want it for whichever song/style you want to play, be it Pink Floyd, Metallica, The Beatles or some clean classic country sound.

The higher end amps also have stompbox effects for even more sound customization, but mine does not. I got the 15W model, which probably sounds more like a 30W amplifier. My model also lacks the USB and MIDI hookups of the pricier models as well as the ability to hook up to the Sanpera pedal and the "power sponge" knob, none of which I think I miss at my playing level.

The amp also gives you good control over the sound with pre- and post-gain settings, reverb and feedback control, plus each effect has two parameters which vary by effect that you can control.

On top of all that, it also has a pretty good tuner built into it, which makes further use of the gazillion red and green LEDs all over this thing. By the way, the amp gets bored sometimes if there is no guitar hooked up to it, so don't be surprised if it starts putting on a light show for you.

And, if you thought amps that go up to 10 are for sissies and lust after one which goes up to 11 (you might as well just make 10 louder), this beast will rock your socks off. It goes up to 13!



My only beef with the amp is that it's magic musical elves seem to be defective. Judging by the kid in the music shop's performance, I was under the impression that when you hook a guitar up to it and bang on the strings, good music came out of it. I don't know if I've got it hooked up wrong or what, but when I plug in and bang on the strings, all that comes out is some awful noise :(
